Pre-Scout
It’s the same one-page pre-scout format we use to break down opposing goalies. It’s now fully fillable, so you can build a new one for every opponent in a few minutes.
What’s on the sheet:
Header: goalie name, team, date and both team logos
Stats + Player Facts: drop in a screenshot from Elite Prospects or the league site
Goalie Photo: so players know who they’re looking at
Notes: strengths and anything notable the team should know
Weaknesses: trends that lead to goals (example: gets off angle on royal road walks = SHOOT CROSS BODY ON LATERAL PLAYS)
Breakaways: what he does when it’s 1 on 1
Shot Charts: rink shot locations, goalie save zones and net placement
How to use it:
Open it in Adobe Acrobat or the free Acrobat Reader. It won’t work properly in Preview or a web browser.
Click any image to swap in your own logos, photo, stats and charts.
Type over the text in each section.
To bold key points, press Ctrl+E (Cmd+E on Mac) to bring up the text toolbar. Bold and CAPITALIZE the stuff players need to remember.
Save it, print it, or post it in the room before the game.
A good pre-scout is short and specific. Pick the 2 or 3 things your shooters can actually do something about, and leave the rest out.
Drop a comment if you use it this weekend. We’d love to see what you find. 👇
